UPES, DIT, Graphic Era & Doon University Student Relocation Guide: Budget PG & Hostel Shifting (2026)

The Student Relocation Dynamic in Dehradun

Dehradun has cemented its reputation as North India's premier educational capital, hosting over 100,000 undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. From the winding pine-flanked hills of Bidholi and Kandoli hosting UPES, to the vibrant academic hub of Clement Town anchoring Graphic Era University, and the upscale foothills along Mussoorie Diversion housing DIT University and IMS Unison, the city buzzes with student transitions every semester.

However, student relocations come with unique challenges: strict hostel warden check-out curfews, narrow access roads through foothill villages like Nanda Ki Chowki and Kairwaan Gaon, 4th-floor walk-up PGs without elevators, tight personal allowances, and the annual panic of summer semester breaks. A student moving a single mattress, study lamp, laptop, 4 cartons of engineering textbooks, and a bicycle should not have to pay for a massive 17-foot commercial container or hire predatory tempo drivers who hike rates upon arrival.

At Simple Magic — Packers and Movers Dehradun, we pioneered specialized student logistics across Uttarakhand. Headquartered near Tibetan Homes School on Old Rajpur Road with primary dispatch facilities in Transport Nagar, our campus logistics fleet is stationed strategically across university clusters to deliver fast, highly affordable, and transparent student moving.

• Included Inventory: Multiple beds/mattresses, study tables, mini-refrigerator, washing machine, water dispenser, and kitchen utensils.
• Transparent Price: ₹4,500 – ₹7,500 total (divided between 2 to 4 roommates, this works out to only ₹1,200 to ₹1,800 per student).

3. Semester Break Luggage Storage (Warehousing at Transport Nagar)

During the 2-month summer break (June–July) or winter break (December–January), paying ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 per month in PG or flat rent simply to store your luggage is a massive financial drain. Instead of hauling trunks back to Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, or Jaipur by train, students use Simple Magic's Secure Student Vault:

• Doorstep Pickup: We arrive at your hostel or PG before exams end, catalog your boxes, seal them with tamper-proof numbered security tags, and load them.
• Climate-Controlled Storage: Your luggage, mattress, and cooler are stored in our secure, dry, 24/7 CCTV-monitored facility in Transport Nagar, Dehradun.
• Doorstep Redelivery: When you return for the autumn or spring semester, we deliver your stored items straight to your new PG or room anywhere in Dehradun.
• Student Storage Rate: Flat ₹799 to ₹1,299 per month for up to 5 cartons + 1 mattress + 1 appliance.

4. Scooty & Motorcycle Transport Across India

When graduating or shifting campuses, riding a two-wheeler hundreds of kilometers home over highways is dangerous and exhausting. Simple Magic provides specialized bike crating and interstate carrier transit:

• Fuel Tank Draining & Mirror Removal: Compliant with national transport safety norms.
• Multi-Layer Scratch Armor: Handlebars, front mudguard, fuel tank, and exhaust pipe wrapped in 3 layers of foam and corrugated sheet.
• Interstate Door-to-Door Delivery: Dehradun to Delhi NCR (₹2,500–₹3,500), Dehradun to Chandigarh/Punjab (₹2,800–₹3,800), Dehradun to Bangalore/Hyderabad/Mumbai (₹6,500–₹9,000).

Navigating Campus Administration & Gate Passes

Moving out of an institutional university hostel or private PG requires adherence to campus regulations. Follow this checklist to avoid moving day delays:

1. Warden Gate Pass Clearance: Most UPES, Graphic Era, and DIT on-campus hostels enforce strict security protocols. Commercial vehicles cannot enter campus without an approved Warden Gate Pass / No-Dues Slip. Secure your digital or stamped pass 24 hours prior.
2. Commercial Vehicle Timings: Many campuses prohibit commercial truck entry between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Schedule your Simple Magic pickup between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM for seamless campus security entry.
3. PG Security Deposit Inspection: In private PG accommodations (such as those around Prem Nagar or Turner Road), schedule a joint walkthrough with your landlord or PG owner before the moving crew departs to verify room condition and secure your cash security deposit refund.
4. ID Verification: Simple Magic drivers and crew carry official company identification badges and commercial transport licenses to ensure smooth clearance at university security checkpoints.
